Niagara point facets: find the category of a unit

Type a symbol, a name or a trade word (kwh, m3/h, pressure, humidity…): the tool shows the matching Niagara unit, its exact name to pick in the facets and the category where to find it.

About Niagara units

In Niagara, a point's unit is picked in its facets, among more than 390 units sorted by category (quantity). You still need to know that m³/h is under “volumetric flow” or that relative humidity is under “misc”. This tool finds the unit and its category from what you type.

Example facets configuration in Niagara

In Workbench, a point's facets are entered in a three-column table: Key, Type and Value.

KeyTypeValueMeaning
unitsunitcelsiusThe unit, to pick in the category given by the tool.
precisioninteger1One decimal place (display only, the value is not rounded).
mindouble10Minimum value: bounds the input on a writable point and the chart scale.
maxdouble30Maximum value, same role as min.
showUnitsbooleantrueDisplays the unit next to the value.

min and max are not alarm limits: those are set in the point's alarm extension. For a counter, min = 0 and no max.

Frequently asked questions

What are the “units” facets in Niagara?

Facets describe how a point is displayed: unit, precision, range. For the unit, Niagara offers a drop-down list organised by category: you first need to pick the right category to find the unit.

Why is my unit not in the category I expected?

Some units are filed in surprising places: %RH is under “misc”, a temperature difference (Δ°C) under “temperature differential”, kWh/m² under “energy consumption”. The search tells you the right category directly.

Which Niagara version do the units come from?

From the units.xml file of Niagara 4.15.5.22. The list changes very little between Niagara 4 versions.

Are the French names the Niagara ones?

No. Niagara displays the English names: the English name is the one to select. French translations are used for searching and are indicative.
